Charles Edward Ives is considered to be one of the first American classical music composers whose work had influence on an international scale. His birthplace is a lovely example of a Federal house, both inside and out, with a massive timber frame and mid-Victorian furnishings. Visitors may arrange for tours of the house, which feature such Ives memorabilia as a desk he used to write some of his works on, a piano from 1840, and a music stand his wife gave him. The house lies about 60 miles to the north and east of New York City, next to Rogers Park.
